Give Clients the Power to Self-Manage and Update Their WordPress Sites

UPDATE: WordPress Creation Kit 1.1.0 is now available for download

To developers, the WordPress admin interface is really simple and intuitive, particularly considering the amount of trouble we go through to make things behave like they should.

I found out a lot of clients that were excited about having their own self-powered CMS, freaked out when trying to change a piece of content or simply weren’t using it at all. It still wasn’t easy or intuitive enough.

Three things that make it hard for non-technical clients to update their site

  • using HTML with different classes in the content editor. Sooner or later they are just going to forget a closing tag, break the site and that means an email or phone-call when you were in the middle of a really cool project and didn’t want to be interrupted.
  • using various plugins with settings with settings all over the place. They’re gona forget to change something and that’s coming back to you.
  • shortcodes – I know what you’re thinking, they are actually useful, but not if they forget the shortcode name or what parameters to use. Also, shortcodes get intertwined with content in the editor and that’s like using HTML, only a little bit easier.

Now imagine having a single place where your client can edit exactly what he needs: a couple of testimonials, update their logo or favicon, changing the copyright footer text, managing the slideshow on the homepage or give them some textareas where to insert their ads.

Welcome Options Page Creator – a new feature coming soon in WCK

The Options Page Creator Allows you to create a new menu item called “Client Site Options” which can hold advanced custom field groups (just like any other edit page). You can register multiple options pages with multiple meta-boxes and repeater fields.

Perfect for:

  • Theme Settings
  • Mini plugins that need an UI
  • Advertising zones
  • Small content pieces that don’t deserve a Custom Post Type just for them (mini-testimonials, widget like zones, etc.)

WordPress Creation Kit – Now with Front End Posting

I’m really happy to announce that WordPress Creation Kit now supports Front End Posting.

This is the biggest single piece of functionality we’ve added to WCK since its launch.

WordPress Front End Posting, what’s that?

Ok, joking aside, WordPress Front End Posting isn’t the most sought after functionality. However, when you do want to post articles or custom post types from the front-end, you realize it’s not that straight forward. While there are some Front End Posting plugins out there, we found they can be improved quite a lot.

This is why WordPress Creation Kit – Front End Posting was created, to fill that need and fill it really, really well. Now you can:

  • post articles in ANY custom post type
  • your Front End Posting can contain all the fields from the WordPress backend: Title, Content, Excerpt, Categories, Tags, Custom Taxonomies, Featured Image.
  • Edit all your content directly from the front end
  • and last, but not least, ANY custom fields created with WCK that were added to your custom post type, can now appear in the front end, giving you unlimited flexibility over the front end form you’re publishing, by adding:
    • text inputs
    • texareas
    • selects
    • check boxes
    • radio buttons
    • wysiwyg areas
    • all of them available as repeater custom fields and groups

Wait, there’s more Front End Posting love below!

For this to really work smoothly, we’ve added some really useful functionality and shortcodes to complement the Front End Posting functionality.

You’ll have access to:

  • Simple Login / Register Shortcodes and Widget
  • Admin Approval for new posts from the front-end (they are saved as drafts)
  • Anonymous posting (if this isn’t active, users are asked to login/register before posting)
  • User Dashboard with Edit Profile and a listing of the users articles

Front End Posting is packed in the WCK Pro version. It comes with premium support and can be used on an unlimited number of sites.

So please make sure you check out the demo and find out for yourself what WordPress Creation Kit – Front End Posting has to offer.

WordPress Creation Kit – a sparkling new custom field, taxonomy and post type creator

WordPress Creation Kit
WordPress Creation Kit consists of three brand new plugins that can help you with the tough task of creating and maintaining custom post types, custom taxonomies and most importantly, custom fields and metaboxes for your posts, pages or CPT’s.

Why another plugin for this?

We’ve actually started work on this more then a year ago, even though we didn’t know it at the time.

We needed to offer to our clients an easy way to add repeating fields that were tied to particular page, post or custom post type. While there were quite a few existing plugins at the time none really fit the bill or had various issues. So we started developing our own API for creating them.

Built around two main concepts

Everything can be a repeater field

As I’ve mentioned, the main feature of our plugins is that metaboxes are actually repeater fields.
This means you can create complex pages like “Our Team”, “Testimonials”, “Our Products” where you have multiple team members, testimonials or products but the number can vary. Also check out the video at the bottom as it should make things a bit clearer.

NO Lock In – everything is saved as post meta or WordPress options

The Custom Fields Creator does just what is says. Every data from your meta boxes or repeater fields is saved as a default custom field in WordPress. They are a bit different though as we’re saving them as a serialized array but that’s something WordPress supports in full.

The big benefit of this is that you can use standard WordPress functions (get_post_meta) in your page templates to list the information entered from the backend. No custom functions and full compatibility with WordPress.

The Plugins

WCK Custom Fields Creator allows you to easily create custom meta boxes for WordPress without any programming knowledge. It supports repeater fields and uses AJAX to handle data.

WCK Post Type Creator gives you the possibility to create and edit custom post types for WordPress.

WCK Taxonomy Creator – create and edit custom taxonomies and attach them to post types.

A short video tutorial

Last but not least, please check out this video on how to create an “Our Team” page using Custom Fields Creator.
