I was really starting to get bored with the blue in Gmail. For such a functional and really easy to use interface it looked really unappealing.
To be honest Gmail is the only online app that I use daily to make my life easier as a web-designer. It’s fast, really functional, full of features (you can even map your gmail account to an email address like email@example.com). Needless to say I really really really like Gmain.
When you use a tool for so long and so often you just one to make small changes to it so it gets a bit of your personality into it. And now you can. I’ve waited for this for over a year now… just hopping for a change. And that change has come!
Behold Themes in Gmail!
All you have to do is enter your Gmail account, click Settings and then Themes. You can select from 31 themes right now, but chances are more will appear in the future.
I use the “Phantasea” Theme, and it’s one of the themes that wasn’t developed by the Google team. It was designed by Matthew Ferreira, and he has similar themes for the iGoogle interface (just search for Phantasea in the iGoogle theme page).
The fun part is that in some cases, you can also customize by location. Some themes change during the day, and make use of the location information you provide to correctly time these changes with your local sunrise, sunset, and/or weather.
So if you want a bit of color in your Gmail account just go ahead and change your theme! I know I did.
I’m back from a great vacation and ready to post more interesting things. This post is about what I want to write this September. Since the hardest thing for me about blogging is starting an article, I publicly announce what I want to write about so I can put some pressure on me.
To make things short this is my plan for September:
How to use WordPress and Thematic as a CMS – this is about the Demo that I’ve implemented and need to finish. Since it’s a presentation web-site WordPress is powerful enough to use as a backend CMS.
First impressions about building a MagentoCommerce Theme. I’m about to start building my first Magento Custom Theme, and it should be interesting to see how things work out.
Why I need a business plan. I’ve started work with my associate on launching a new design agency and a business plan is really something we need. It doesn’t have to be something extraordinary, but I has to exist as it will help me focus on the important things and try to dismiss time wasters.
Launching a Free WordPress Theme. I have quite a few ready made layout designs for clients that ware not accepted and I plan on developing at least one child theme based on Thematic. I was thinking on suggesting three layouts and you guys would vote on what will be transformed into a wordpress theme.
These are just some of the things I want to write about this September, and probably these will not be the only ones.
If you are particularly interested in something drop me a line and I might consider blogging about it!
